Board Strategy Facilitation
Strategy ranks the second highest function of a Board of Directors after the appointment of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Boards should not expect “ready-made” strategies as if they are only there to put on a stamp of approval. Board members add value to the process of strategic thinking in successful companies. Executives look up to their Boards as a resource that they tap into to enrich their own strategic thinking.
Implementing a robust strategy requires identification of enablers and an implementation plan to ensure successful delivery of a strategy. Identification of strategic risks ensures that the company’s strategy is balanced and enterprising; it pursues opportunities whilst addressing risks to ensure achievement of superior and sustainable results. Facilitating development of a strategy by Boards is a key component of Talent Africa’s service range.
Our approach to Board Strategy delivers:
- Well-thought out strategies
- Clear articulation and prioritisation of strategic challenges
- Development of strategic options
- Engagement of Board members and executives in making appropriate strategic choices that take the company to its next level.
We help our clients define their specific sets of competencies required to compete in their unique market places. This is a distinctive and measurable intervention towards instilling a culture of performance that is unique to each business’ competitive requirements as well as setting our clients apart from their competitors.
Talent Africa has access to various researched-based competency profiling tools and methodologies.
Leadership Development & Coaching
Due to the global shortage of talent, it is imperative that organisations prioritise skills development from within their organisations’ existing talent pool as far as possible. We assist clients to identify and build talent at various levels of seniority within their businesses. It is important that personal, team and organsational development receives equal weighting and attention. If one of these components is left out, the sum of the whole is imbalanced and dysfunctional.
Winning organisations develop and sustain effective leadership talent. Coaching is a process that enables the continuous learning and development of professionals to help them reach their personal best and thus contribute actively and optimally towards the success of their business. Coaching therefore plays an important role in an organisation's overall talent management process and has a strategic impact on the well-being of the business.
Talent Africa works with a network of independent coaches who specialise in various areas including business coaching, executive coaching, performance coaching, skills coaching and integral coaching. Depending on the scope and size of each coaching project we assemble a team that is best able and appropriately experienced to meet the needs of our clients.
In addition, we give special attention to the initial chemistry sessions and paring coaches and professionals in order to meet the individual’s specific needs.
Assessment of Human Capital
Talent Africa's assessment practice is based on the premise that assessment techniques assist the client to make better decisions regarding their human capital and maximise the benefit to the business. We assess individuals, teams and organisations.
Each assessment project is designed according to the objective of the assessment. We ensure that participants and clients are thoroughly briefed about each stage of the process to ensure transparency. Feedback on assessments is provided to both the candidate and the client separately.
We use psychometric tools and/or assessment centres to support the following focus areas that fall within the talent management process:
- Career planning and development
- Team building
- Succession planning
- Mergers and acquisitions
- Organisation and culture surveys
Talent Africa is committed to the ethical standards that govern the use of assessments. This ensures that the tools we use have been scientifically shown to be valid and reliable, that they can be applied fairly to all employees and are not biased against any employee or group, as required by the Employment Equity Act.
Talent Africa specialises in assisting the Chairperson to identify suitable executives and extend an invitation to the successful executive to join the Board. The first step is to understand the exact requirements for the ideal candidate with specific reference to the expertise this person must bring to the Board. We then build a target list for the Board’s Selection Committee to consider. Talent Africa ensures that where there is conflict of interest with possible candidates, it is clearly indicated to the Board’s Selection Committee. The process going forward is then customised to our client’s specific requirements.
Executive Search & Specialised Skills Recruitment
As the competition for competent people in the workplace becomes more intense, we provide a superior service to our clients to assemble the right combination of talent. We do this by applying sophisticated research methodologies to identify potential candidates that we believe meet our client's unique specifications.
A long-list of suitable candidates is presented to the client in order to select a short-list to be interviewed. The next step is to facilitate the client and candidate interview process. This enables the client to select their preferred candidate.
After successful placement, regular follow-ups are conducted with clients and candidates to cement our long-term involvement with both parties.
